Stop Food Wastage In Malaysia

Ramadan will come soon.  It is within a year only once, will arrive and will go away. Of course, any food stalls, restaurants and home kitchens will be more busy with cooking activities. Furthermore, many people and tourists from abroad also taste a variety of delicacies that are sold during the month of Ramadhan. In our thinking, we may have started thinking of what food to buy or food to sell according to the latest taste. Without realizing it, due to desires to buy food extreme to a level which is difficult to finish the food according to our ability and will donate a waste of food.

Did you know, according to statistics ahead of the Ramadhan month and last year's celebration, Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SW Corp) has recorded a total of 615,000 tonnes of food wastes. excluding regular days where Malaysians are reported to dispose of no less than 3,000 metric tons of daily food that are still suitable for consumption, in contrast to the increased volume during the festive season.

Where will food waste be distributed?
Reality things happen in Malaysia, it will also end up at the garbage disposal site where there is no special place for isolation of the site for the food waste.

How about the environment?
 As a result, when this food goes to the landfill, it will decompose and disintegrate too, emitting greenhouse gases like methane, which has a severe impact on climate change and also global warming.

How to deal with food wastage problems?
  • Encouraging food donation campaigns if there are excessive amounts like canned foods that are almost expired to be expedited to those in need. The food should be thoroughly checked before it is donated to the needy.
  • There are simple steps to avoid waste when eating, is to cool the food to maintain its freshness and can be reheated when to eat.
  • Can also donate excess food or food expiration dates to wild animals as a supplement to them.
  • Need to charge a fine if not finish the meal in the restaurant.
