E-Waste Recyling Management.
Malaysians are almost unstoppable when wasting. The people of the country produce loads and loads of it. And that includes e-waste, where Malaysians produce one million tonnes annually.
What is E-Waste ?
I would say, e-waste is actually a broken, non-working or old/obsolete electric electronic appliance such as TV, PC, air conditioner, washing machine and refrigerator. “Household E-waste” means e-waste that comes from household, commercial, institutional.
E-waste is becoming a global issue because of tremendous growth of demands on electrical and electronic equipment and the disposal after use. Disposed E-waste sometimes cause health and environmental hazard if they are not handled properly. Electronics have a number of harmful elements that react with air and water to create problems of e-waste such as water, air and soil pollution as well as problems that affect human beings in the form of diseases.
Thus, everything that falls into electronics’ category, that you intend to throw away, is e-waste (electronic waste). This includes computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones and so on.There are proper methods to dispose off electronic items.

Effect Of E-Waste on Humans and Environment:
- Motherboard of computers and TV have contained high levels of lead can contaminate air, water, and soil. In addition, they distort the process of brain development, while posing danger to central nervous system and kidneys.
- Other than lead, motherboards also have high levels of Mercury. Improper disposal may create skin and respiratory disorders. Mercury poisoning also causes acute brain damages.
- The motherboard circuits can cause lung cancer when you breathe air polluted by the fumes released when the motherboard elements react and create Beryllium. It is also responsible for skin diseases, including warts and certain forms of dangerous allergies.
Treating E-Waste :
So far, no proper method is implemented even in the first world to eliminate e-waste problems. The two methods that I find interesting for proper treatment are e-waste recycling and refurbishing.
For recycling, there may be products that are not fully recyclable. The PVC coating, for example, remains so of age and can not be recycled. It is better if the manufacturer uses recyclable material so that e-waste is transformed into something that can be used again without damaging the planet and its inhabitants. Therefore, one of the major factors in treating e-waste is to force manufacturers to use green elements.
For refurbishing;
If electronics are renewed, they can be resold at a lower price. Therefore, both society and the environment will benefit. Instead of simply removing your old TV into the trash bin, you may want to think about calling the vendor and asking him where to present items to repair. If you can not find it, consider donating the item to some of the charities that either use it or get it fixed and use it.
Lastly, not all waste of electricity is easily disposed of quickly, but if we use the right steps as suggested above it will reduce the amount of electrical waste impact. although this method is not helpful, but it is also capable of reducing the rate of increase in e-waste.
